VETAR Flashing Procedure (Enigma Firmware)
Hardware Setup
1. Set the front-panel rotary switches of the VETAR module : VN1 to 5 and VN2 to 0
2. Switch off the VME crate before inserting the VETAR module
3. Insert the VETAR module securely into the VME crate.
4. Connect the following :
- SYNC-HDMR connection
- White Rabbit optical fiber
- Trigger connection
- USB service cable
5. Power on the VME Crate
Firmware Flashing Procedure
1. Verify USB Connection
Confirm that the VETAR USB interface is detected by the operating system.
2. Read the currently installed firmware information:
eb-info dev/ttyUSB0
3. Flash the Enigma Firmware
Program the firmware image into the VETAR flash memory:
eb-flash dev/ttyUSB0 vetar2a-ee-butis-enigma-v5.0.4.rpd
During programming, output similar to the following is expected:
Autodetecting sector size: found = 0x40000
Scanning offset 0x3ffffd4 ... done!
Erasing 0x3fc0000 ... done!
Programming 0x3ff0000 ... done!
4. After programming is complete, reset the FPGA:
eb-reset dev/ttyUSB0 fpgareset
5. Read the installed firmware information again:
eb-info dev/ttyUSB0
Verify that the reported firmware version matches the newly programmed Enigma release.
6. After FPGA reset, start VETAR software environment:
start.sh
The startup script should complete without errors and the VETAR module should be detected correctly. This confirms that the flashed firmware is operational and that the board can be used in the DAQ system.
