This web has the purpose to provide information about National Instruments products as well as activities and projects at GSI.

It is meant as a platform for collaborative work and documentation as well as exchange of experience for users of National Instruments hardware and software at GSI. For this purpose, we have set up the NIUserGroup, which is open to all NI users at GSI. How to join the NIUserGroup: Ask a member of the NIUserGroup!

EE/KS provides user consulting for projects with National Instruments products at GSI.





Obtaining, Installing and Using NI-Software at GSI

The following pre-requisites are required for using software from National Instruments at the GSI site:
  • Read and accept the terms of the GSICampusLicenseAgreement,
  • you need a user account for the domain "campus" at GSI, and
  • the computer must be registered on the GSI site (via the User Help Desk of the IT department).
For installing the software, you need an account with administrator rights. At GSI, a local "localadmin_usernname" account is typically used on a PC.

Web-Based Installer (recommended)

The newest NI Software release is available from NI. NI supports the most recent and two previous software version, only. Older version are not supported by NI.
Please make sure to install all NI software updates as soon as possible and/or upgrade to a supported version!

  • Download and install the NI Package Manager with local_admin permissions.
    • For offline installations:
      Select desired NI Software Plattform Bundle. Do not use the highlighted download button, but follow the link in the hint section to download an offline installer.
  • Follow the instruction of the installer.
  • Then install desired software using NI Package Manager.
  • Finally you will be ask for software activation. Choose the Option Configure License Server. It's srvFlexLMHFSS.gsi.de:28001.

Installation from network drive

Follow the instructions in following links to install older NI software releases, like LabVIEW 2018 etc.

Obtaining a License for Exceptional Cases

Obtaining an exceptional (non-floating) license requires the fulfillment of certain conditions. The conditions and terms are listed here.
