Installing NI software

This page describes the procedere for older software versions like LabVIEW 2018 etc.

Download and Install NI software 2018 and prior from GSI File-Server

The following must be done using an account with administrator rights. With Windows 7/10 on a GSI computer. It is recommended that you do the following with a so-called "localadmin" account.

\\wincontrols\data\NI is the mount point to be used for installations of older NI software from network drive,

Installation for standard NI software platform

• Simply choose the version you want, (see below) and navigate to the desired Distribution, e.g. \\wincontrols\data\NI\Software Platform Bundle\Spring 2018
  • Copy the distribution to a local drive. Locate and run the "Installer\setup.exe". Or:
  • Install via network:
    • Open a =cmd=console with local_admin permission.
    • Type: net use z: \\wincontrols\data\ni and enter credential is asked for.
    • Type: z: ENTER
    • Navigate to the desired NI Developer Suite. (cd)
      • \\wincontrols\data\NI\Software Platform Bundle\Spring 2015\Installer (includes LabVIEW 2015 SP1) or
      • \\wincontrols\data\NI\Software Platform Bundle\Fall 2016\Installer (includes LabVIEW 2016) or
      • \\wincontrols\data\NI\Software Platform Bundle\Spring 2017\Installer (includes LabVIEW 2017)
      • \\wincontrols\data\NI\Software Platform Bundle\Spring 2018\Installer (includes LabVIEW 2018)
    • Run the setup.exe.
• Select no serial number, but to evaluate the software. You will configure the license manager after installation and reboot.
• Select the components you would like to install.
• In case the installer asks for a serial number, leave that field empty.
• In case the installer asks for an activation of the installed product, press "Cancel".
• Follow the instructions.
• You may be asked to reboot your machine.
• The last step is to configure the license manager. If you do not to use license manager, you will be able to use the software only in (fully functional) evaluation mode for a period of 30 days.
• Finally, you may resolve some general LabVIEW issues described here.

Installation for NI's Next Generation software platform

Follow the instructions from above to get access to the network drive, but use \\wincontrols\data\NI\NXG\NIPackageManager18.0.2.exe (includes LabVIEW NXG 2.1) for installation. Follow the instruction of the installer. You maybe ask to reboot. Then launch the NI Package Manager and install or upgrade the desired packages.

    • Depending on your selection you may be ask for DVD 2 or additional Xilinx Tools. Guide the installer to the corresponding directories.

  • LabVIEW 2013 SP1, NI Developer Suite 2014 DS1 for Windows.
  • The software package can be found in \\wincontrols\data\NI\Software\Developer_Suite_2014_DS1

Older versions con be found in related folders located in \\wincontrols\data\NI\Software.

Obtaining DVDs

For exceptional cases, we have a limited number of DVD-sets available. In such a case, you may contact Holger Brand or Dennis Neidherr for obtaining/borrowing such a DVD-set.
