Assignment of Ethernet Address Ranges to groups at GSI

Organizationally Unique Identifier (OUI)

GSI has received an Organizationally Unique Identifier (OUI) and company_id from IEEE ( see attachment). According to this, GSI may assign Ethernet (MAC) Addresses starting with 00-26-7B to devices built or programmed at GSI.

To avoid duplicate assignments inside this range, subranges are assigned to GSI groups by the IT department as a single, central administrative authority. The ranges contain 256 addresses each, several ranges may be assigned to the same group.

Private OUI

You can also use Organizationally Unique Identifier (OUI) by setting the private bit. These addresses can be used similar to private ip addresses and they are not unique at the whole world.
