What is in-kind?

In-kind is giving scientists what they want.

Collaboration (owned by everyone) ≠ in-kind (specific collaboration, central company, owned by host)

Definitions of in-kind:
  • Non-cash contribution to an entity
  • contribution of services/goods by a shareholder according to cost book
  • Sharing of capital and assets

Why in-kind?

Because we want to
  • want knowledge
  • want cooperation
  • share responsibility
  • share scientific goal
  • long-term scientific relationships
Because we have to
  • forced by (procurement) law --> it's a way around tendering rules
  • budget constraints
Because our partners want us to
  • control
  • national strategy
  • economic return
