What is in-kind?
In-kind is giving scientists what they want.
Collaboration (owned by everyone) ≠ in-kind (specific collaboration, central company, owned by host)
Definitions of in-kind:
- Non-cash contribution to an entity
- contribution of services/goods by a shareholder according to cost book
- Sharing of capital and assets
Why in-kind?
Because we want to
- want knowledge
- want cooperation
- share responsibility
- share scientific goal
- long-term scientific relationships
Because we have to
- forced by (procurement) law --> it's a way around tendering rules
- budget constraints
Because our partners want us to
- control
- national strategy
- economic return
