Introduction
The Information Technology (IT) Department provides the general computing infrastructure of the Laboratory as well as dedicated services for physicists, engineers, administration and management. The Department also develops and deploys the Grid computing infrastructure for the LHC experiments, participates in EU-funded grid computing projects, like the EGEE project which reaches well beyond particle physics.
IT collaborates closely with industry (through the CERN openlab for
DataGrid applications) to develop advanced computing solutions and to enable IT technology transfer in both directions.
The Grid Deployment Group (IT-GD)is responsible for coordinating the LCG and EGEE grid operations, and the integration, certification and testing of grid middleware.

Functions
The main focus will be on configuration management, but it is expected that the successful candidate participates in other grid operations and middleware related activities.
The successful candidate will perform the following functions for the configuration management project:
Definition of the long term roadmap for the project;
Regular evaluation of priorities of the following:
Roadmap implementation,
Management of feature requests and new requirements,
Adaptation in response to middleware developments,
Bugfixes;
Subsequent coordination of the distributed team of contributers in order to implement change. This includes all necessary personal contributions to the codebase;
Overseeing of the software lifecycle from codebase to release;
Maintenance of documentation;
Interaction with the userbase and 3rd level support for configuration and installation issues;
Representation and Public Relations for the project.
Qualification required
University degree or equivalent in Computer Science or a related field.
Experience and knowledge
Excellent working knowledge of Linux systems, particularly RHEL (and derivatives) and Debian;
Bash scripting and unix tools; knowledge of perl and python would be an advantage;
Practical experience with software development tools, building and packaging;
Practical experience of grid concepts and distributed computing;
Knowledge of gLite and work experience in a large federated grid infrastructure would be an advantage;
Excellent organisational and task-tracking skills;
Good communication skills are essential for working within the local team, for ensuring good coordination with the distributed contributers and for liasing effectively with end-users;
The ability to learn quickly and proactively fill knowledge gaps;
Good knowledge of English, basic knowledge of French or an undertaking to acquire it rapidly.
