Acronyms Dictionary

AOD: Analysis Object Data. Event Data coming out of ESD plus additional already processed information (decay, etc). See also ESD.

BAMPS: Bolztmann Approach of MultiParton Scattering.

BCS: Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer theory. Superconducting theory based on the existance of an energy gap between the ground state and the lowest energy levels. It can be used in QCD spontaneous symmetry breaking theory, being the generation energy gap the equivalent to dynamical generation of fermion masses.

CPT: C from Charge, P from spatial reflexion, T from Time. We observe CP violation at the disintegration of K mesons.

DIS: Deep Inelastic Scattering.

DLS puzzle: DiLeptonSpectrometer puzzle. Referred to the unexpected strong dilepton (e) low mass enhancement over predicted hadronic cocktails ("standart" cocktails, including $\pi^0$ Dalitz decay and $\Delta$ decay), not explained by in-medium mass shifts, measued at LBL. See PRL 79(97)1229.

DOF: Degree(s) Of Freedom.

DPM formalism: Dual Parton Model.

DTS: Detector Tracking System. AKA Slow Control.

EKS model: Eskola Kolhinen Salgado. Model for the dependence of "Bjorken's x" of the gluon distribution function (G) ratio for 2 different nucleai. Basically, for 2 nucleai A and N defining ${R_{EKS}} = {\frac{G_A(x,Q^2)}{A G_N(x,Q^2)}}$ we have that:
  • $R_EKS <1 $ in the shadowing region.
  • $R_EKS >1 $ in the range 0.1 < x < 0.3 (antishadowing region) and x > 0.8 (Fermi motion region)
This is creating problems for $J/{\psi}$ and $\Upsilon$ production. See arXiv:nucl-th/0009008v1 and also the reference article about nuclear shadowing: arXiv:hep-ph/0604108v2

EMC: Electro Magnetic Calorimeter. Detector.

ESD: Event Summary Data. See also AOD.

GSW: (theory) Glashow Salam Weinberg. Gauge theory of electroweak interaction. It establishes a symmetry group of local phase transformations (a weak gauge group) called weak isospin group $(SU(2)_L)$.

GEM: Gas Electron Multiplier. Detector.

GPM: Gaseous PhotoMultiplier. Detector.

HLT: High Level Trigger.

HPC: High Performance Computing

HSD: (model) Hadron-String Dynamics model.

IQMD: Isospin-QMD. See QMD model.

IVB: (model) Intermediate Vector Boson. Model used by Glashow (1961) to deal with weak interactions, being it mediated by exchange of them.

JDL: Job Description Language.

LFN: Logical File Name.

MRPC: Multi-gap Resistive-Plate Chamber

MDT: Meta Data Target

OSS: Object Storage Server

OST: Object Storage Target

PDF: Parton Distribution Function.

PFN: Physical File Name.

PHENIX: (experiment) Pioneering High Energy Nuclear Interaction eXperiment.

PPR: Physics Performance Report.

QGSM: (model) Quark Gluon String Model.

QMD: Quantum Molecular Dynamics model.

RGE: Renormalization Group Equation.

RQMD: Relativistic QMD model. See QMD model.

SFM: String Fusion TMode

TAPS: Two Arms Photon Spectometer.

TRD: Transition Radiation Detector. It is composed of many layers of different materials with different refraction indexes. The particle emits when crossing from one material to another depending on the relativistic Lorentz factor $\gamma$ (> 1000). Good for electron/pion separation ( in the momentum range (0.5,100) GeV/c )

UrQMD: Ultra-relativistic QMD model. See QMD model.

VEV: Vacuum Expectation Value. In QCD, expected value of one operator with the vacuum wave function.

ZDC: Zero Degree Calorimeter. Detector.

ZYAM: Zero Yield At Minimum. Assuption in high-pt analysis.
