Chief Technology Officer

EGI.eu is a foundation established under Dutch law to coordinate National Distributed Computing Infrastructures around Europe and to ensure that these infrastructures interoperate with their peers within Europe, but also around the world. The strategic evolution and direction of EGI.eu is governed by the EGI Council and the foundation managed by the EGI Executive Board through a full time Director and supporting staff (http://www.egi.eu).

EGI.eu’s mission is to provide a permanent organisation to coordinate the operation of a production quality European-wide Distributed Computing Infrastructure for researchers across Europe, which will continue the services provided through the Enabling Grids for E-sciencE (EGEE) and Nordic DataGrid Facility (NDGF) projects. Building initially on the technology used within EGEE and the NDGF projects, EGI will integrate technologies used in production coming out of other projects in Europe (e.g. UNICORE) and will track the suitability of other technologies (e.g. Clouds, Volunteer Computing, Virtualisation) for integration into production as they mature. The new requirements and continuing support of the user communities will be coordinated by EGI.eu through collaboration with the national resource providers and other collaborating projects.

Working with the Chief Operations Officer and Chief Customer Officer they will collect and prioritise requirements from the operations and user communities within EGI and establish these within the collaborating technology providers. The CTO will be expected to represent EGI at relevant meetings within Europe.

The TM is responsible for the daily management of the work of the Technology Unit including the distributed team of experts assessing new technology releases for distribution onto EGI’s production resources. They will manage the process of developing the technology roadmap within the EGI collaboration following on from the collaborations established by the Director with technology providers within Europe. Working with the Chief Operations Officer and Chief Community Officer they will collect and prioritise requirements from the operations and user communities within EGI and establish these within the collaborating technology providers. The TM will represent the EGI.eu Technology Unit at relevant meetings within Europe.
