Tenure Track Assistant Professor

The Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Nebraska - Lincoln has been approved to hire a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Experimental High Energy Physics to start in August 2008. Supported primarily by the National Science Foundation, the Nebraska HEP group presently consists of four faculty members (K. Bloom, D. Claes, A. Dominguez, and G. Snow), three postdoctoral researchers, plus graduate and undergraduate students. The primary focus of the group is accelerator-based experiments - the D0 Experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron and the CMS Experiment at CERN's Large Hadron Collider. In each, the group has responsibilities in detector hardware, software and computing, and physics analysis. Nebraska hosts a Tier-2 computing center for CMS. The group is also involved in the Pierre Auger Observatory and the Deep Underground Science and Engineering Laboratory. The group is invested in education and outreach activities, most visibly the Cosmic Ray Observatory Project (CROP), a growing, statewide initiative to establish a network of high-school based cosmic ray research stations studying extensive air showers.

Applicants for the Assistant Professor position will be expected to expand upon the group's roles in the above experiments, but new initiatives are not excluded. Applicants are required to hold a Ph.D. in physics. Applicants should demonstrate a strong research record that includes at least two years of postdoctoral work in experimental high-energy physics, the potential for independence and leadership in a high-energy experimental group, and a strong interest in undergraduate and graduate teaching.
