Hades Gas Scales

Introduction

For some of the HADES detectors remote controlled scales are used for the measurement of the weight of the gas bottles to have a continous view on the available amount of gas. In total four scale units are used for MDC and RPC gases.

The scales are readout by SOEHNLE S20 2760/2761 units, which are readout via RS232 lines controlled by the DCS' EPICS IOC. Until now the readout was based on an VME based solution directly connecting the CPU to the RS232 lines. Since VME at HADES is phased out, the new setup will have:
  • a comport server (RS232 ↔ TCP/IP) connected to the the units
  • a software based EPICS StreamDevice IOC connecting to the comport ports
From the operators point of view should be no difference visible.
